EU: BARROSO WRITES TO PUTIN, "NO MORE EMBARGO MEASURES AGAINST UKRAINE"

No more trade embargo measures against Ukraine. That was today’s warning by the head of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Russian government has recently issued a decree including new trade barriers between Russia and Ukraine. Such initiative "is against the agreement following which the EU decided to postpone the application of the free trade agreement with Ukraine", as said in the letter sent to Putin by Barroso. Moreover, from the text it is clear that the European Commission intends "to foster a pacific solution", and it is for this reason that "We hope the recent positive steps made in the Minsk Protocol of 5 September and the following note of 19 September will be fully followed". In particular: "Russia-Ukraine border monitoring; OSCE checking that border; withdrawal of all foreign troops and military equipment from the Ukrainian territory", pointed out Barroso. Then, the latest encouraged everyone to provide "Ukrainian citizens with energy supply" quickly, and to guarantee "fulfilment of all contractual obligations with EU customers".” “
