"Presenting the path covered during the three and a half years since the appointment of the delegate and his assistants, so as to perfectly understand what the preparation of the Chapter has been, what its goals and expectations are". This is, in short, the purpose of the long interview granted to father Federico Lombardi by cardinal Velasio De Paolis, Pontifical delegate for the Legionaries of Christ, to coincide with the opening of their Special Chapter, that was broadcasted by Radio Vaticana. "A renewal mainly involved a revision of the Constitutions and a turnover of the Superiors, but, for it to be deep and lasting, it had to involve as much as possible the members of the Legion in all of the Provinces and communities", a summary of the interview reads. As to the Constitutions, the highlights of the revision concerned authority and its assertion in the running and life of the religious Congregation. Also very important was a reflection on the "heritage of the Institute", i.e. its distinctive institutional factors it identifies with, in its spiritual and ecclesial reality. This shapes "a call to live the Mystery of Jesus who announces the Kingdom with the typical spirituality of the kingship of Christ who reigns from the Cross, along with a lively Eucharistic and Marian compassion and an apostolic take".
