BELARUS: YEAR OF PRAYER LAUNCHED BY CATHOLIC BISHOPS’ CONFERENCE

(Sir Europe – Bratislava) – The Conference of Catholic Bishops of Belarus has approved a three-year cycle of preparation for the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of the Virgin Mary in Fatima. The year 2014 has been declared a Year of Prayer, aimed at spiritual preparation for the jubilee. "Many Christians neglect their personal contact with God through prayer. They stopped paying attention to this important aspect of their faith and prefer watching TV, playing games, complaining that they have little time because of work and duties", explain the representatives of the press office of the Bishops’ Conference. The prelates invite the faithful to find time for everyday prayers, to fulfill the wish of Our Lady of Fatima to transform the world, and to unite the families and communities spiritually. "Let it be a year in which we will understand the importance of prayer as a way of building a closer relationship with the Lord and our neighbours", invites the website of the Catholic Church in Belarus. The three-year cycle will culminate in 2016 with a "Year of Hope".
