DENMARK: NEW EU CLIMATE-CHANGE CENTRE FOR NORDIC COUNTRIES

EU’s initiatives about sustainable growth conducted through the European Innovation and Technology Institute (Eit) include the three "Knowledge and Innovation Communities" (Kic) for climate-change mitigation, information and communication technology and sustainable energy. Kic’s work combines education, business and research to turn innovative ideas into economically-viable climate-change-mitigating goods and services. The 200-partner climate Kic will be opening its 11th centre in Denmark on 7th February. "It is an important initiative, because it extends our innovation basis by including this key area of Europe", director Mary Ritter states. The Centre will first involve Denmark only, then it will be extended to the other Scandinavian countries "to enable young businessmen, climate professionals, students and governments to join the European network that works to find solutions to adapt to or mitigate climate change", Ritter explained. Copenhagen has recently been appointed European Green Capital 2014 by the European Commission, not least because of its public and private sectors closely cooperating in the areas of green innovation and sustainable employment.
