JOHN PAUL II: CARDINAL DZIWISZ, "GRATEFUL TO BENEDICT XVI AND FRANCIS" (2)” “

The archbishop – whose words are also posted on the website of the diocese of Cracow – says he believes that the College of Cardinals’ approval of the miracle that took place through the intercession of Karol Wojtyla not only "confirms the sainthood of John Paul II" but "proves, once more, that the way to sainthood that he took is safe and is an example to be followed". The cardinal was Wojtyla’s secretary from 1966 to his death on 2nd April 2005. Meeting the claim for "Saint Now" that was raised during the funeral service, Benedict XVI granted an exemption from the five-year waiting period after death for starting the beatification and canonisation process. The process was opened on 28th June of that year. John Paul II was beatified on 1st May 2011.
