ADULT STEM CELLS: CONFERENCE AT THE VATICAN, AN OFFICIAL SCIENTIFIC COMMISSION” “” “

"The Vatican is working on the establishment of an official scientific commission committed to the achievement of the scientific and humanitarian goals which were outlined at this international conference on adult stem cells". Fr. Tomasz Trafny, head of the Pontifical Council for Culture’s science department, announced this today at the end of the first international conference on adult stem cells organised at the Vatican in collaboration with "Stem for Life Foundation" (New York), "NeoStem Inc" and "STOQ International". With regard to the issues of "regenerative medicine" and the use of adult stem cells ("ethically acceptable", he said), Fr. Trafny reaffirmed that the Vatican "intends to build bridges with all those – scientists, universities, foundations, research centres – who are willing to participate in this great effort to help defeat some particularly common diseases". Again Fr. Trafny explained that, "in the future, we will try to organise specific meetings on specific research and operational aspects, so as to improve information exchange among scientists, researchers and businesses in this field in order to achieve the proposed objectives more quickly". Then he presented the first clip which will be posted on the Internet to make this ethical-medical commitment to adult steam cells known worldwide". (continued) ” ” ” “
