WORLD HUNGER: MANI TESE LAUNCHES A CAMPAIGN TO PROMOTE FOOD SOVEREIGNTY” “” ” ” “

” ” On October 16th, to celebrate World Food Day, Mani Tese launches the "Food for World" campaign about food sovereignty for responsible food consumption, to support peoples’ right to choose their own agricultural policies and to reduce world hunger. It is a three-year programme (2010-2012) of Europe-wide events and activities (it will involve Italy, Bulgaria, United Kingdom and Spain) with the participation of teachers, students, institutions and local authorities. The goal, as explained by Mani Tese, is "to make consumers understand, with a simple, straightforward language, the complexity of food sovereignty and the connection between daily dietary choices and their social and economic impact on the developing countries". In Italy, the projects organised as "Food for World", the slogan of the three-year programme, will involve: 2500 schools, with 4000 educational kits sent them to create educational trails; 50 local authorities; 1,700,000 consumers and the local bodies. "Food sovereignty – explains Luigi Idili, president of Mani Tese – means that states, regions and local communities may decide on their own what to produce, choose farming methods that are sustainable, environmentally friendly and respectful of the local traditions and decide on which markets and to which targets to send their foods to".” “
