HOLY SEE: PONTIFICAL COUNCIL FOR CULTURE PROMOTES A "FORUM" FOR AFRICA

The Pontifical Council for Culture, in collaboration with the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, is organising a Forum for Africa on "Cultures, identities of peoples and development in Africa and in the Black Diaspora" in March 2011. The Vatican Dicastery explained in a statement that the initiative "will bring together ecclesiastical, international and non-governmental organisations" to "examine strategic ways and means for promoting development in Africa and putting the human person, created in the image and likeness of God, at the centre of every consideration and initiative". The Forum – reads the statement of the Pontifical Council for Culture – "aims to become a permanent place of reflection, a source of concrete proposals for a cultural and educational commitment which will enhance development in Africa". Two cardinals, about ten bishops, approximately twenty theologians and some representatives of the cultural world will take part in the next preparatory meeting due to take place from 27 September to 1 October 2010 at the Missionary Pastoral Centre RECOWA/CERAO (Regional Episcopal Conference of Western Africa) in Abidjan.” “
