BELGIUM: CARD. DANNEELS’ BOOK-INTERVIEW TO BE PRESENTED ON 3 DECEMBER” “

An overview of Belgium’s national history and of the ecclesiastical situation in the past few decades, "thorny" issues (such as the decriminalisation of abortion in his country), recent social and cultural developments facing the faith – these are some of the subjects discussed in the volume "Confidences d’un Cardinal", an interview made by journalists Christian Laporte and Jan Because with archbishop of Malines-Bruxelles Godfried Danneels and foreword by former prime minister Herman Van Rompuy, now appointed EU’s "permanent" president. The presentation of the book will be held in Brussels on 3 December during a public ceremony at the inter-diocesan centre (VSKO’s Seminary hall). The authors explain that "the cardinal recalls his youth, his models, his priestly vocation, his formation as liturgist". He focuses on the Second Vatican Council’s themes, their reception by the Belgian Church and decolonization. Cardinal Danneels’ focus is also on "the difficulties in believing, the relationship between reason and faith and his relationship to mass media". The readers will "discover the people the cardinal has met, such as King Baldwin, John Paul II and Benedict XVI". The book also includes a photo gallery and a section with the cardinal’s spiritual writings". ” ” ” “
