HOLY SEE: MGR. RAVASI TO MARK THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PONTIFICAL COMMISSION FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE

"Preserving, maintaining and promoting the cultural heritage of the Church supporting, at the same time, the development and the creation of new works that are at the service of the faith communities and testify to their faith" – these are the guidelines set by the Pontifical Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church as reported by its president Mgr. Gianfranco Ravasi. The latter held a press conference today to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Pontifical Commission. This afternoon at 16.30, a workshop on the 20 years of the Commission is to be held at St Pius X Palace in Rome (via Conciliazione). The workshop will be attended by Cardinal Tercisio Bertone, Vatican Secretary of State, by Mgr. Ravasi and by Mgr. Friedhelm Hofmann, bishop of Wurzburg, who will report on the "achievements" of the Pontifical Commissions. Salvatore Settis, current Director of the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, will also deliver a speech on "the cultural heritage of the Church in the contemporary culture". Mgr. Ravasi called the cultural heritage sector "an endless treasure chest of manifold works", which are artistic – related to painting, sculpture and architecture -, musical, literal and poetic. "It is worth recalling the recent meeting Pope Benedict XVI had with the artists of every discipline last week". (continued) ” ” ” ” ” “
