ALBANIA: BISHOPS CONFERENCE, FINAL RELEASE OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

A Symposium about the "Caritas in Veritate" and a Committee for the hundredth anniversary of the birth of the Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, "the daughter of Albania". These are the decisions taken by the Autumn Plenary Meeting of the Albanian Bishops Conference (Cea), held in Tirana on 9 and 10 November. It was revealed today by the spokesman of the Albanian Bishops, don Gjergj Meta, who was appointed as such just yesterday, at the end of the plenary meeting. "The meeting – states a release – was focussed on reviewing, discussing and planning pastoral work with the Catholic congregation and generally in the country". Items on the agenda included the Priestly Year launched by Benedict XVI, planning "several national and international initiatives about this Jubilee Year". In addition, the Bishops reflected on the Encyclical “Caritas in Veritate”, looking at "the situation of Albania, especially in terms of poverty, unemployment, respect for life and other social and ethical issues". And it is just about Benedict XVI’s social Encyclical that the Bishops Conference decided to organise a Symposium. (continued)
