WYD IN SYDNEY: WAKE IN RANDWICK, THE ACCOUNTS OF THE YOUNG

(From our correspondents in Sydney) – "Looking at my homeland with the eyes of human knowledge, you might think that the Holy Spirit is totally absent from my own land, which is regarded as one of the most atheist countries in the world. But if you look at it with the eyes of God, you’ll realize exactly the opposite!". Those words were spoken by Marie Štìpánová, from the Czech Republic, at the wake going on at the Hippodrome of Randwick (Sydney) on the occasion of the XXIII World Youth Day. "There have been times – admitted the girl – in which I thought God was absent from my life. I thought that when I didn’t get anything I longed for – an experience, a relationship, an occasion; – I had somewhat lost God’s design". But right at the time of disappointment, "God – said Marie – showed me how present He was, and He taught me to look at the world with His eyes. Something that I believed to be disappointing, in fact, turned out to be even better, even more beautiful than what I hoped for. The knowledge of God is much greater than ours; it is much more than we can imagine. What may seem bad luck to us may be a blessing in His eyes". (To be continued)
