BENEDICT XVI: TO THE GREEK-MELKITE CATHOLIC CHURCH, APPEAL FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY (2)

The Pope appreciated the relations of the Melkite Catholic Church with the Muslims, which are meant, he said, "to look for mutual understanding, and to promote and defend together, for the benefit of all, social justice, moral values, peace and freedom". In his speech, he also mentioned the "dramatic" social and political situation of the Middle East, and prayed "for the path of peace, which may finally be open to the peoples living in this much beloved area".
