BENEDICT XVI: PROGRAMME OF THE PASTORAL VISIT TO SAVONA AND GENOA (17-18 MAY)

The journey to Savona and Genoa is starting with a visit by the Pope to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mercy on 17th and 18th May. The programme of the visit was published by the Vatican today. The Pope is leaving on Saturday 17th May from Ciampino to Genoa. He will reach the Sanctuary in Savona by helicopter. After the visit, the Pope will celebrate a Mass at 5.45 pm in Piazza del Popolo, in Savona, and will privately visit the rooms of Pope Pious VII at the bishop’s palace of Savona. From there, he’ll leave to Genoa by helicopter, where he will lodge at the Sanctuary of Madonna della Guardia, at Cerànesi- Campomorone. On Sunday 18th, after a private visit to the Sanctuary, he is visiting the Paediatric Hospital “Giannina Gaslini”. There, at 10 am, he is meeting directors, physicians, nurses, hospitalized children and their relatives, in the square opposite, where the Pope will also deliver a speech. At 11 am and 3 pm, in Piazza Matteotti, Genoa, he is meeting the young and delivering a speech. At noon, he is reciting the Angelus and greeting. After going from Piazza Matteotti to the Cathedral of Saint Lorenzo in Genoa, by car, he’ll meet the chapter of the Cathedral and the religious, addressing them a speech. The Pope will dine with the bishops of Liguria at the Major Archiepiscopal Seminary, and after a break, he’ll go to Piazza della Vittoria, to celebrate the Mass.
