POPE IN GENOA: APPEAL FOR BANNING CLUSTER BOMBS

An appeal for banning cluster bombs: it was made yesterday by the Pope, at the end of his pastoral visit to Genoa. "I would like to recall an important event that will start in Dublin tomorrow", began Benedict XVI, who, before taking leave from the devotees, mentioned "the diplomatic Conference on cluster bombs, which has been convened in order to produce a Convention that will put a ban on the use of such deadly weapons". "I wish – he went on –, with the will of all the participants, we can produce a powerful, reliable international deed". "We must make up for the mistakes of the past and never make them happen again", warned the Holy Father, accompanying "with my prayer the victims of cluster bombs and their families".
