SPAIN: THE BISHOPS CONDEMNED ETA’S ATTACK IN LEGUTIANO

” “The Spanish Bishops’ conference fiercely condemned the attack carried out by ETA terrorists in Legutiano (the Basque Country) today, against military barracks, killing one civil guard while other people were wounded. The bishops stated that terrorism "systematically infringes the right to life, thus showing the hardest intolerance and totalitarianism". "In our country, ETA’s terrorism has become the most dangerous threat against peace, because it is against human life, against the freedom of the people, and against the knowledge of the truth of facts and our history", it was also written in the note by the bishops, for whom the attacks against the police were "attacks against democracy", because the police "were entrusted by the Constitution with defending the rights and freedom of the people". On ensuring the relatives of the victims "bishops’ solidarity", the bishops concluded: "The Catholic community shares this sorrow through prayer, to ask for serenity in disgrace and clear-headedness, for working together to defeat terrorism".
