BENEDICT XVI: REGINA CAELI, "LET’S ASK FOR A RENEWED PENTECOST FOR THE CHURCH"

"Let’s rediscover the beauty of being baptised in the Holy Spirit; let’s become aware again of our Baptism and our Confirmation, the sources of an ever-relevant grace. Let’s ask the Virgin Mary to give back to the Church a renewed Pentecost, that will infuse in everyone, specially in the young, the joy of living and testifying the Gospel". This is the invitation made yesterday to the congregation, before saying the "Regina Caeli", which in Easter time replaces the Angelus. Pentecost, explained Benedict XVI, is "the baptism of the Church, which starts its universal mission from the streets of Jerusalem through a prodigious preaching in the different languages of mankind". In this "baptism of the Holy Spirit", went on the Holy Father, "the personal and the communal dimensions, the "I" of the disciple and the "we" of the Church", are inseparable", because "the Spirit consecrates the person and makes it at the same time the lively member of Christ’s mystic body, partaking of the mission of testifying His love. And this is accomplished through the Sacraments of Christian initiation: Baptism and Confirmation".
