BENEDICT XVI: TO CHILEAN BISHOPS, "BRING THE LIGHT OF FAITH EVERYWHERE"

"All sectors can be enlighten by the light of faith. For instance the world of culture, of science and of politics, the promotion of the family based on marriage between a man and a woman, the protection of the environment, the defence of human life at every stage of its existence, and the right and duty of parents to educate their children morally and spiritually." This is what Pope Benedict XVI said in today’s audience addressing the bishops of the Chilean Bishops’ Conference during their visit "ad Limina Apostolorum" to the Vatican. The Pope encouraged the bishops to "nourish their inner life and deep faith" so that "they may provide the best pastoral care initiatives to meet the spiritual needs of their faithful." The Pope recalled that "this great evangelist mission" requires "a particular effort of purification and charity. You know that today, men feel the urgent necessity of finding true examples of coherent and evangelic life." As for priests and seminarians, he exhorted the bishops to be "close to them in their difficulties" and to help "them give priority to prayer and to Eucharistic Celebration." Then he encouraged them to dedicate themselves to "charity activities benefiting the poor" so that the Church "could be a place of mutual help." ” ” ” “
