Advent time, a time for presents even for the Pope. During the Wednesday audience held today in front of 7,000 faithful gathered in Paul VI hall, a representation of the FIPPA (The Italian Federation of Bakers and Confectioners) presented Pope Benedict XVI with 1,000 Panettoni. The Panettoni will be distributed in Rome in the house of reception "Dono di Maria" (Gift of Mary) and through the Caritas centres. By today’s initiative, the FIPPA is going to promote a Christmas of solidarity in collaboration, until Christmas, with those confectioners and bakers who had joined the federation and the Caritas centres of the dioceses. Today, in thousands of Italian baker’s, people can have a taste of the traditional Italian Christmas cakes. In his final greetings, the Pontiff warmly thanked for the gift and also invited the members of some bank institutions, who were present at the audience, "to show solidarity with weaker sectors and to sustain production activities."
