CARD. BERAN: A TRIBUTE TO HIM IN THE VATICAN GROTTOS TOMORROW

A tribute to card. Josef Beran (1888-1969), metropolitan archbishop of Prague and primate of the Czech Republic: the ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Holy See, Pavel Vosalik, along with the metropolitan archbishop of Prague and primate of the Czech Republic, card. Miloslav Vlk, and the president of the Commission of the Senate of the Czech Republic for the Affairs of the European Union, Ludek Sefzig, will pay tribute to card. Beran, tomorrow morning. On the occasion, they will lay a bouquet on the cardinal’s grave in the Vatican Grottos. "The recent sixtieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the forthcoming 120th anniversary of card. Beran’s birth are an opportunity to recall Beran’s importance for the Czech Republic, for Europe and for this era", states a release from the Embassy of the Czech Republic to the Holy See. Card. Beran has been the victim of the totalitarian regimes of Nazism and communism. "His long internment – says the Embassy – has become a symbol of oppression for religious reasons. He was and is an example of moral strength, kind wisdom, Christian love, humbleness, respect for man, and deep humanity. His life is still an example to be followed".
