BENEDICT XVI: ANGELUS, PRAYERS FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE TERRORIST ATTACKS IN MUMBAI

"I would like to invite you to pray for the many victims of the brutal terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India, and the clashes that broke out in Jos, Nigeria, as well as for the wounded and all those who were affected in any way." This is the appeal made by the Pope at the end of the Angelus. "The causes and circumstances behind these events are different, but the horror and the condemnation for the explosion of such a cruel and senseless violence must be one," Benedict XVI continued. Then he asked the Lord "to touch the heart of those who delude themselves this is the way to solve local or international problems" and urged "everyone to give an example of meekness and love so that we can build a society worthy of God and man." After the Angelus, he recalled the Feast Day of St Andrew Apostle, Simon Peter’s brother and patron saint of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, connected to the Church of Rome "by a tie of special fraternity." At this purpose, mentioning the visit paid "according to the tradition, on this happy occasion" by a delegation of the Holy See, led by Card Walter Kasper, president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, to the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, Benedict XVI sent his greetings and best wishes to him and to the faithful of the Patriarchate."” ” ” ” ” “
