HOLY LAND: MGR. KELLY (EUROPEAN BISHOPS) "TO OLMERT AND ABBAS WE’LL SPEAK OF TWO SUFFERING PEOPLES"

"Keeping open the doors of dialogue to open new ones. We will celebrate with the local Christians and tell them they are not alone. We will tell our Churches that being a pilgrim in the Holy Land is a blessing and we will try to give the Holy See and the political and diplomatic leaders an accurate report". It is in this spirit that the delegation of European and American bishops of the Coordination of the Bishops Conferences in support of the Holy Land will tackle its traditional trip to the Holy Land, now in its seventh year. It was stated in an interview with SirEuropa (online tomorrow on agensir.it) by the head of the delegation, the archbishop of Liverpool, mgr. Patrick Kelly. Their plan includes visits to Gaza and Nazareth, meetings with the Palestinian and Israeli authorities and the local Christians. The archbishop points at "always speaking up before violence and injustice" as at the contribution given by the Church to the peace process in the region and offers this preview: "to Olmert and Abbas we’ll speak of two suffering peoples and the need of justice for the population of the Holy Land; we will insist on the duty to give generous humanitarian aids". As to the local Christians, mgr. Kelly states that "they must have freedom of religion and worship. To help them, we have to encourage pilgrimages, visits and endless contacts".
