CZECH REPUBLIC: CARITAS LAUNCHES A WEBSITE ON HELP DURING EXTREME FLOODS
(Sir Europe - Bratislava) - Fifteen years after the extreme floods in Moravia and ten years after a similar disaster that hit Bohemian rivers, Caritas Czech Republic launched a website http://povodne.charita.cz[>>], introducing the efforts of the institution in favour of those affected by natural forces. “Thanks to these experiences, we are ready, along with organs of integrated rescue system, to provide highly professional help in emergency situations”, says director of Caritas Czech Republic, Oldrich Haicman. Through statistics, pictures and personal witnesses one can get acquainted with damages caused by floods, which in 2002 touched 753 towns and villages, destroying dozens of bridges and historical sights, and paralyzing infrastructure, not to mention the damage caused to individuals, many of whom lost their homes and even lives.
