“The functioning of the General Synod of the Church of England is very similar to that of a parliament”, Robert Byrne, Ecumenical Officer at the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales told SIR Europe. “Accordingly, it should find a solution that pleases all believers. The adjournment gives bishops more time to reflect on the issue of the ordination of women bishops that should be addressed in the right way for all. The decision of the Church of England to move forward in this direction remains a significant obstacle to ecumenical unity for which we should continue to strive”.
