(SIR Europe – Brussels) - “Intergenerational Solidarity: Setting the Parameters for Tommorrow’s Society in Europe” is the theme of the annual high-level meeting of European religious leaders and top EU institutions, scheduled at the seat of the EU Commission in Brussels on July 12th. This date is part of the structured dialogue between the European Union and representatives of the big communities of believers present in the old Continent, pursuant to EU treaties. This year is devoted by Europe to active ageing, intergenerational solidarity, demographic development, ageing of the population in the 27 member countries, reconciling work and private life, and tackling unemployment (with regard to young people, above all). The EU will be represented by President of the Commission José Manuel Barroso, of the Council Herman Van Rompuy, and of the European Parliament Martin Schulz. Christian Churches (Catholics, Protestants, Anglicans, Orthodox), Islam, the Jew world, Hinduism and Bahá’i believers will be led by about twenty cardinals, bishops, rabbis and spiritual guides.
