(Sir Europe - Bratislava) - An open appeal concerning protection of marriage, addressed to public authorities of Slovakia, has been issued by the Institute for Human Rights and Family Policy (www.hfi.sk[>>]). Its text emphasizes that “family based on marriage between one man and one woman, as an environment where children are conceived and raised, is an irreplaceable cell of the society”. According to the representatives of the Institute, “marriage deserves a privileged position, respect and protection from all people and institutions, including the state”. Therefore, they appeal to members of Slovak parliament, government, president of the republic and all civil authorities of the country to support marriage as a permanent and exclusive union of a man and a woman and to “resist unreasonable requests to establish possibility of marriage or registered partnership of persons of the same sex”.
