(Sir Europe - Bratislava) - Prayer meetings and Bible readings have been conducted in the Supreme Council of Ukraine each Thursday for over 4 years. The weekly prayer meetings are attended by all interested Christian deputies including Orthodox, Catholics and Protestants, independently from their affiliation to a political force. According to the Religious Information Service of Ukraine, the prayer group includes all parliamentary blocks but communists. Similar prayer breakfasts have been conducted in the parliaments of other countries for a long time, in Ukraine the idea came into practice in 2008. The group of 4 people has gradually grown to 15 deputies. “The meetings are very important. First of all, they are dominated by brotherly atmosphere where people share their concerns, ideas and this is the most valuable thing. Secondly, we undoubtedly constitute the core of an inter-faction group of nearly 70 deputies aiming to pass laws promoting the Christian values”, says the organizer of the group Pavlo Ungurian, head of the Association of Young Christians of Ukraine.
