(Sir Europe – Brussels) – The European Commission is due to launch a new initiative to help “millions of people in developing countries to gain access to energy” during the European Summit dedicated to “Sustainable Energy for All” scheduled for Monday, 16 April. The meeting, sponsored by the Commission and the Danish Presidency of the EU Council, will be held in the Charlemagne building in Brussels. Speakers at the Summit will include UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. The meeting will bring together representatives of European governments and partner countries, particularly developing countries, experts, as well as representatives of energy companies and the economic world. The Summit will be opened by European Commission President José Manuel Barroso and will be closed by Development Commissioner Andris Piebalgs. Next week the Commission will also adopt a Communication on growth and jobs for Greece as well as an employment package called “Towards a job-rich recovery” (18 April). 13/04/2012 -
