CZECH REPUBLIC: TOMORROW IN ROME CELEBRATIONS IN HONOUR OF SS. CYRIL AND METHODIUS

(Sir Europe - Bratislava) - Several representatives of the state and the Catholic Church of Czech Republic will participate in the celebrations in honour of SS. Cyril and Methodius, due to take place tomorrow in Rome. The official government delegation will be led by Prime Minister Petr Necas, while the Bishops’ Conference will be represented by its president, cardinal Dominik Duka, cardinal Miloslav Vlk and archbishop of Olomouc Jan Graubner. The official program will begin with a visit to the Basilica of San Clemente and prayer at the tomb of St. Cyril. The prime minister will lay flowers at the tomb of Czech cardinal Beran in St. Peter’s Basilica and should be received in private audience by Pope Benedict XVI in the Vatican afterwards. Later in the afternoon, the delegation along with about a hundred pilgrims from Bohemia and Moravia will attend the Eucharistic celebration in the Basilica of St. Praxedes, presided over by cardinal Péter Erdõ, president of the CCEE (Council of European Bishops’ Conferences), with the presence of several European bishops. The evening will conclude with the concert of the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra from Zlin in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.
