(Sir Europe – Brussels) - “I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all those who have shared with me this commitment to the mission of the Church in Europe and who have joined with me in labouring with the Gospel (cf. 2 Tim. 1,8): the Episcopal brothers, the collaborators in our Secretariat, here in Brussels, the Bishops’ Conferences and all the ecclesial bodies at the European Union level”. This was said by mgr. Adrianus van Luyn, outgoing president of the Commission of European Bishops Conferences (Comece), in his speech last night in Brussels on the occasion of the spring plenary meeting of the body (ending tomorrow). The bishop stressed “the importance of frequent, reciprocal relations between COMECE and the Bishops’ Conferences of the Member States”, recalling that, “in the same spirit of shared fraternal responsibility, COMECE seeks community with Ccee” and “in an ecumenical spirit it maintains good and frequent contacts with the representatives of the other Christian Churches at the EU level”. Mgr. Van Luyn said: “I always let myself be guided, in the exercise of my ministry, first as a priest, then as a Bishop, by this spirit of dialogue of the Second Vatican Council, in a particularly intense manner within the context of COMECE”.
