(Sir Europe - Bratislava) - Fifteen years after the extreme floods in Moravia and ten years after a similar disaster that hit Bohemian rivers, Caritas Czech Republic launched a website http://povodne.charita.cz, introducing the efforts of the institution in favour of those affected by natural forces. Thanks to these experiences, we are ready, along with organs of integrated rescue system, to provide highly professional help in emergency situations, says director of Caritas Czech Republic, Oldrich Haicman. Through statistics, pictures and personal witnesses one can get acquainted with damages caused by floods, which in 2002 touched 753 towns and villages, destroying dozens of bridges and historical sights, and paralyzing infrastructure, not to mention the damage caused to individuals, many of whom lost their homes and even lives. Caritas showed ability to adapt to this situation and thanks to quick strategical decisions and cooperation with domestic and foreign institutions it was able to help families with the restoration of their houses, distribution of food and drinking water. The Flood Bulletin published by Caritas was the only reliable source of information regarding the consequences of this natural catastrophe and their reduction. According to Oldrich Haicman, since 1997 Caritas has helped victims of several floods in the region, becoming a strong and reliable partner for all rescue forces.
