(From our correspondents in Sydney) - “The ability to share with others, once they have returned home, the consciousness that in the Church today there are so many people who experience the faith in their lives and express it with deep spirituality, through the careful listening to the Word and the teaching of the Church, is very encouraging, especially for all those who live in situations where it is not easy to bear Christian witness”, said Father Federico Lombardi, spokesman of the Vatican Press Room, summing up the results of WYD today in a briefing to SIR at the end of the final mass celebrated by Benedict XVI at Randwick racecourse. WYD in Sydney, according to the Vatican spokesman, represents a spiritual “recharge”, “like the experience of Jesus on the mount”, but it “needs to be translated into daily actions”. Commenting on yesterday evening’s Vigil, and the moving silence that fell at the moment of eucharistic adoration, Fr. Lombardi said that “it confirmed the ability of the young to concentrate on prayer and to understand very well the significance of silence and adoration. The young understand what is being proposed to them, what the Pope is saying to them, and they are perfectly able to respond”.
