It is “a choice of continuity and coherence”. In an interview with the SIR, Mgr Paul Tighe, secretary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications (PCSC), commented on the theme chosen by the Pope for the 44th World Day of Social Communications: “The priest and pastoral ministry in a digital world: new media at the service of the Word”. The theme was released yesterday - on the Feast of Sts Michael, Gabriel and Raphael Archangels - by the Holy See Press Office. It was accompanied by a note by the PCCS (www.pccs.va). “The Year for Priests – explained Mgr Tighe – has a deep meaning: it aims to highlight the extraordinary and fascinating mission of a ministry which is completely dedicated to God and to the service of people. The whole activity of a priest has a vertical dimension; it points to Heaven but is accomplished on earth, with the instruments that are specific to ‘human labour’. Communication is one of the key elements of such a service, since it shapes a number of relations that, starting from prayer, lead to a more authentic communion”. In this perspective, said the secretary of the Pontifical Council, “it is true that communion is communications’ highest dimension”. (continued)
